Dutch banding and seeding knives were initially developed in the late seventies to band fertilizer, when it was discovered that placing fertilizer in a narrow band below the seed depth, increased the effectiveness of the fertilizer. This resulted in a production increase of up to 30% in some trials.

The concentration of nutrients in a narrow band and placement in a moist position improved the ability of the plant to take advantage of the nutrients. Further experiments showed that by placing the fertilizer to one side of the seed and slightly below rather than randomly banding it across the field also improved yields.

As a result Dutch now has an impressive line up of single shoot, double shoot single zone and double zone knife openers. Dutch knives are unsurpassed in performance. Extensive engineering efforts have reduced draft, increased wear life and given excellent product placement.

Dutch Industries has taken knife design from a trial and error process to a highly sophisticated scientific process. By using the University of Saskatchewan testing facilities, we determined the characteristics of V, Flat, and Round Tip profiles and explored all possibilities of attack angles, so that future design would be predictable.

Our materials have been carefully selected to meet the task ahead and include Ferro Tough, Ferro Wear, Dura Chrome, and Dutch Impacto Carbide. These alloys and the extensive design experience have resulted in knife products that are superior in every way..
