Customers Comments On DUTCH Disc Opener Systems
  • Glenn Mitchell (Avonhurst, Saskatchewan, Canada)
We rented a DUTCH coulter unit to seed 250 acres of pea stubble that we just couldn't get through with our seeder. I had tried to seed it with our hoe type seeder and only managed about 15 acres in two hours. Once I had the DUTCH machine set and ready to work, the only stops I had were to fill it. It handled the tough pea residue easily, and now I can see good emergence. I was able to use a 150 HP tractor to pull the 32 foot unit at 5.5 miles per house. I could seed as many acres per hour as with our own 42 foot unit at 4.25 miles per hour.

We are pleased with the simplicity and the strength of the machine. Only a minimum amount of maintenance is required to get it ready for the next customer. It folds quickly and lifts high for ease of transportation. The adjustable height is a bonus. We use a 1200 gallon wagon behind this tool bar and have had 65 HP tractors pull the unit. To date we have had no complaints and customers are eager to book this machine!

He has a crop rotation of conventional tillage wheat, no till milo, and then fallow-chemical or tillage. It was extremely important for his schedule to get the fertilizing out of the way before planting so that planting could be done without costly interruption. The Dutch Zero-Till Coulters allow us to apply NH3 in wheat residue with minimal disturbance for our no till needs. The speeds that we can travel and minimal maintenance allows us to get the fertilizing done quickly. Planting can then be done quickly without interruptions from fertilizer application. The Dutch Zero-Till Coulters improve our operation. They are built heavy so that we do not have to worry about breaking down. After one thousand acres of use they had already paid for themselves based on the cost difference between gas and other forms of nitrogen.
